Saint of the Week: John Keble

John Keble was a reform-minded Anglican and the inspiration for the Tractarians (Oxford Movement) who refocused the Church's attention on ministry basics and a more intimate embrace of the sacraments. He was also an accomplished poet and hymnodist. Two of his compositions can still be found in our Hymnal (Hymns #10 and #656).

The Rev. James de Koven was a professor of Church history at Nashotah House, a seminary of the Episcopal Church in Wisconsin. He advanced the belief that the presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Sacrament is a real and objective presence and promoted ritual practices that recognized and honored that presence.
Saints of the Week: Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac

In 1633, Vincent de Paul and Louise de Marillac founded the Sisters of Charity of Saint Joseph, known today as the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul). The “Grey Sisters,” as they were known, were the first non-cloistered religious order for women devoted to acts of charity. Their mission grew to include founding hospitals, orphanages, and schools. Their initiatives were also influential during the 19th-century revival of Anglican religious orders in Europe and North America.
Saint of the Week: "Woodbine Willie" Kennedy

Rev. "Woodbine Willie" Kennedy was a British Anglican military chaplain who earned his nickname offering cigarettes to the wounded soldiers to whom he ministered in World War I, often under heavy enemy fire. Swayed to espouse Christian socialism and pacifism due to his experiences in The Great War, he was a prolific and gifted writer, writing numerous poems and several books about his experiences.

Margaret of Cortona was a 13th century monastic, an Italian penitent of the 3rd Order of Saint Francis. While in prayer, Margaret heard the words, “What is your wish, poverella (little poor one)?” and she replied, “I neither seek nor desire for anything but You, my Lord Jesus.”

Rev. Thomas Bray, an Anglican priest, headed the first major effort to establish libraries in the New World, organized the Anglican Church in Maryland, and convinced James E. Oglethorpe to found an American colony in Georgia to settle debtors as an alternative to debtors' prison.
