In his book God: A Biography, Jack Miles writes that the three great prophets - Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel - represent respectively, "the manic, the depressive, and the psychotic." Our Bible study is jumping in at the deep end of the prophetic canon.
Ezekiel is a challenging text, home to some of the Bible's worst passages and to some of its most powerful and enduring: heavenly wheels within wheels, the valley of the dry bones, the good shepherd, and an ecstatic vision of the restored Temple in the city of God. Ezekiel is, among many things, one human being’s grappling with the destruction of everything that means something to them. It’s about how you hold on to your faith, integrity, and dignity in a cruel, violent, disgusting world bent on taking them from you. It’s about trusting in the word of God and finding hope.
