In the Anglican tradition of which the Episcopal Church is a part, the Thursday before Easter is known as Maundy Thursday, after the Latin mandatum or command. Tonight, we mark the institution of the Eucharist by our Lord Jesus Christ, wash one another’s feet as Jesus did for the disciples, and receive anew Jesus’s commandment to love one another.
